FLY-IN VISITING PILOTS BRIEFING

Beverley Soaring Society in conjunction with the Shire of Beverley present the 2026 Beverley Airshow and fly-in on the 11th of April 2026. This page will outline the process and procedures for pilots intending to fly-in during the event at the Beverley Airfield (YBEV). Fly-in registration required.

SAFETY PHILOSOPHY

Please think, act and fly safely and adopt the Safety philosophy:

  • Safety for yourself, your passengers and your aircraft.
  • Safety for other airspace and aerodrome users.
  • Safety for those people and assets on the ground.

CONTACT

Adam Rowe (Fly-in Aircraft Ground Controller) – 0409082506
Steve Pearson (Event Coordinator/Display Organiser)

GENERAL

A NOTAM will be published containing a restricted airspace zone which will be activated during the hours of XXXX WST to XXXX WST for the duration of the flying airshow display. Fly-in aircraft are encouraged to arrive well before the start time to ensure they are not turned away.

FLY-IN REGISTRATION

Registration is required for this event as space is limited and spots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

BEVERLEY AERODROME

Please check ERSA for the most current aerodrome details.

The main operational runway is 16/34 (gravel) approx. 1460m. A thin sealed section exists on the western side of the 16/34 strip. However, this is not to be landed on, it is purely used by gliders taking off.

To avoid overflying the town, runway 34 is a right hand circuit with runway 16 being a left hand circuit.

Airfield AMSL is 700 feet whilst circuit minimum height is 1,700 feet.

Runway 08/26 will be closed and used for visitor car parking, visitor aircraft parking and will have the public crossing it.

Animal hazards such as birds exist and moderate turbulence can be expected on the southern half of 16/34 due to the tree line on the western side (especially for landings on 34 with a westerly).

Windsocks are located to the north east of the intersecting runways.

Closest aerodromes – Whitegum Valley (YWGM) approx. 359°/15nm and Northam (YNTM) approx. 336°/33nm

The aerodrome details as depicted in the Country Strip guides or OzRunways Airfield guide.

FREQUENCIES

CTAF/UNICOM – 126.85

Melbourne Centre – 120.30

HAZARDS

The town of Beverley is directly to the north. Please fly neighbourly and limit overflying.

There are elevated power lines along the road approx. 400m to the north of the 16 threshold.

WEATHER

Webcams are available at https://www.beverley-soaring.org.au/webcams/ and unofficial weather at https://weather.beverley-soaring.org.au/.

The GAF and Jandakot TAF/METAR are available from BOM/NAIPS. Windsocks are located as per the airstrip guides, NE of runway intersection.

First Light – Last Light

  • Sunrise: 22:05 UTC (6:05 AM WST)
  • Sunset: 10:21 UTC (18:21 PM WST)

ARRIVING INTO BEVERLEY

Please make brief and clear legible radio calls.

There will be a large number of aircraft movements, so keep a vigilant look out and fly correct circuit procedures. We anticipate a large number of aircraft with varying airspeeds. Stay alert and maintain a good look out. If in any doubt, give way.

Expect a delay inbound, not only because of the volume of arrivals but because there may be aerobatics taking place, in which case we ask you to remain clear of the circuit (preferably to the west) until that pilot has finished their aerobatics.

Please make appropriate calls on the joint CTAF frequency 126.85. Try not to overload this frequency, only make the circuit calls for best awareness. Concise calls at ten miles inbound, joining the circuit, on downwind and final are recommended. Please keep your calls brief. Also listen out carefully to form a mental picture of other traffic in the vicinity.

Much more importantly, please keep your eyes peeled at all times. Radios do fail and some aircraft still don’t have one as its not required at YBEV.

If there is an incident, the runway may be closed for an indefinite period.

Possible diversions

  • Whitegum Valley (YWGM) @ 359°/15nm
  • Northam (YNTM) @ 336°/33nm
  • Narrogin (YNRG) @ 173°/49nm

AIRCRAFT PARKING

Parking will be at the northern end of Runway 16/34, to the north of the RFDS hard stand, perpendicular to the runway, tail as close to the road as possible.

Pilots are asked to shut down their engines parallel to the runway before the aircraft are pushed into parking spaces to maximise SAFETY and occupancy.

Volunteer marshalling will guide arrivals on the ground from 0730. Brush up on your hand signals and please follow the marshallers directions when maneuvering on the ground for parking or departures.

Parking is not available at or in private hangars as crowds will be standing in front of them

Do not use Runway 08/26 as the public will be allowed to cross this runway.

DEPARTING BEVERLEY

Pull your aircraft out and parallel to Runway 16/34 before starting. This will ensure prop wash does not go over the crowd or other aircraft. Run ups are suggested on the thin sealed runway section that runs the full length to avoid prop chips.

Please make clear legible radio calls. There will be a large number of aircraft movements, so keep a vigilant look out and fly correct circuit procedures.

Be patient and extra vigilant before lining up on the runway for departure.

PEDESTRIANS

There may be photographers with their tripods around the airfield. We will try to ensure they are wearing yellow, high-visibility vests.

Please have a very good look around prior to starting your engine, a lot of people at the airfield on the day wont be familiar with aircraft so will be unaware that beacons on and the words “clear prop” signal an engine start. Be mindful of those who don’t understand aircraft operations and where possible use a volunteer to keep people away during start.

FUEL

AVGAS and MOGAS is NOT available. The fuel supplies are the property of the Beverley Soaring Society but can’t be sold to the public.

AIRCRAFT SECURITY

Many of the people who will be visiting the airfield on the day know little or nothing about aircraft and their vulnerability and fragility. Be sure your aircraft is secure if you’re leaving it unattended and please make a careful pre-flight inspection before departing. Ensure throttle locks are in place.

AIRMANSHIP

LOW FLYING – if you aren’t qualified to do it, don’t do it, remember the Safety philosophy.

Whilst this is a public air show, it’s not the place to perform unplanned aerobatics. Please respect the airspace and those using it.

Please be mindful of what’s behind and around you when starting engines and conducting run ups.

If you need to push your aircraft or manoeuvre out a of a tight space please use wing walkers or some of our volunteer marshals.

Please fly neighbourly, having our aerodrome located so close to the town is a privilege and we need to respect our neighbours by minimising noise disruption.

HUMAN FACTORS

Be aware of your own limitations and the fatiguing effect of making several flights in one day. It can be very hot and dry at Beverley so remember to stay hydrated, nourished and keep your blood sugar levels high. There are water fountains located outside the club house toilets.

Please stop flying as soon as you find yourself making even small mistakes.

Make good decisions. Stop and have a chat instead.

REFRESHMENTS

Food and drinks will be available for purchase on the day.

Accommodation

No onsite camping but some nearby accommodation options might be available. TBD.

ADDITIONAL POINTS FOR CONSIDERATION

Please enjoy your day with us at the Beverley Airshow.

We and our visitors would be very grateful if you would display a laminated A4 sheet of information about your aeroplane in its windscreen or on the propeller.

Please be professional with regard to all aspects of your operation. The Beverley Soaring Society club and our operations are visible to the public.

The future of this event is dependent on us all operating within appropriate guidelines and the Civil Aviation Legislation.
